WELCOME TO THE 12th ANNUAL VYC .
.EAST-WEST ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME

WITH THE PERMISSION OF
GERRY GITTLESON - LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS
(From an article in the 2006 game program)

It's hard to believe that the annual VYC East-West All-Star Football Game already is in its 10th year. Wasn't it just yesterday that David Rosenberg of Calabasas kicked a booming 55-yard field goal in 1998? Has it really been seven years since a teenager named Kyle Boller from Hart flashed his amazing passing arm in 1997? And it just couldn't be five long summers since unheralded defender Lamar Moxie from Taft came through with the game of his life in the 1999 game, can it?

Oh, how time flies when you're having fun.

And that's what all-star events are really about. A chance for graduating seniors, many of whom are playing their final game, to provide one last hurrah, to represent their schools and community one last time, and perhaps most important, to help raise funds for the Valley Youth Conference in their final sporting endeavor before adulthood.

More than anything else, this game is about winners, and winning is always fun. Forget the scores, there are no losers. Those who've been chosen from among more than 100 schools across the Southland are here because they're special, and it's an equally special treat to enjoy watching the action.

So enjoy the game. It's truely a treasured moment for all involved - the players, the coaches, the Valley Youth Conference representatives, and of course the rest of us lucky enough to be here.

(Check the "History" page for scores of previous games)

The annual San Fernando Valley High School All-Star game was first played in 1966, as an East vs. West classic confrontation. Now under the supervision of the Valley Youth Conference, it is considered an honor to be selected to participate in this game as a player or coach. We would like to have the coaches, athletes, cheerleaders, cheer directors, band and band directors join us in making this 41st anniversary game the most successful All-Star game in Southern California.

The Valley Youth Conference has been in existence since 1966. We are a non-profit volunteer organization devoted to the immediate
San Fernando Valley
area through athletics. We offer a full year-round sports program that includes basketball, track, tackle football and cheerleading for boys and girls ages 5 through 14. We are a 100% volunteer organization with over 10,000 participants. Because we are all volunteers, there are no salaries to pay. The entire profit from this game will go toward the benefit of our children and to athletic scholarships for the underprivileged children.

In order to continue the All-Star tradition we have asked that the coaches at the selected schools nominate up to six players, in good standing with their schools, to participate in this game. Schools that have been invited to participate represent the
San Fernando Valley, Glendale, Burbank, La Canada, Santa Clarita, AntelopeValley and the Los Angeles
area.
