WELCOME TO THE 13th ANNUAL VYC .
.EAST-WEST ALL-STAR FOOTBALL GAME

WITH THE PERMISSION OF
GERRY GITTLESON - LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS
(From an article in the 2008 game program)

 It's the 12th annual East-West All-Star Game,
and on Father's Day. It's a great day to celebrate.

The event is a celebration of the area's finest high school
football players getting together for one last hurrah, one last
touchdown, one last great tackle or interception, one last
chance to represent their teams, their communities and
their supporters through the years-parents, friends,
coaches-who come together today for what figures to be
another great game.

Because it's an annual event, the East-West game is also a
great chance to celebrate the past. Of course, there figures to
be lots of new highlights today in a showcase of talented
players and coaches on both sides, but what about the past?
Oh, the memories come flooding back.

The passing of Hart's Kyle Boller, who would go on to
Cal and the NFL.
The kicking of Calagasas' David Rosenberg, who
kicked a 55-yard field goal.
The powerful running of Valencia's Manuel White,
who rushed for 107 yards.
The receiving of Chaminade's Marcus Everett,
who caught an 80-yard pass to win the game.

There have been so many great moments, too many
to list here. But it will be fun.to bring things back to
the present and see what happens today.

And most important these players get to finish their prep
careers by raising money for the Valley Youth Conference-
which is where a lot of the players started-
so that makes everyone a winner,
no matter what the final score.

Sit back. Enjoy. And who kows?
You might catch a moment or two that will last a lifetime.

The annual San Fernando Valley High School All-Star game was first played in 1966, as an East vs. West classic confrontation. Now under the supervision of the Valley Youth Conference, it is considered an honor to be selected to participate in this game as a player or coach. We would like to have the coaches, athletes, cheerleaders, cheer directors, band and band directors join us in making this 42nd anniversary game the most successful All-Star game in Southern California.

The Valley Youth Conference has been in existence since 1966. We are a non-profit volunteer organization devoted to the immediate
San Fernando Valley
area through athletics. We offer a full year-round sports program that includes basketball, track, tackle football and cheerleading for boys and girls ages 5 through 14. We are a 100% volunteer organization with over 10,000 participants. Because we are all volunteers, there are no salaries to pay. The entire profit from this game will go toward the benefit of our children and to athletic scholarships for the underprivileged children.

In order to continue the All-Star tradition we have asked that the coaches at the selected schools nominate up to six players, in good standing with their schools, to participate in this game. Schools that have been invited to participate represent the
San Fernando Valley, Glendale, Burbank, La Canada, Santa Clarita, AntelopeValley and the Los Angeles
area.
